Junior Competition Team (Grades 4th - 8th)

Rehearse and perform a full production of SpongeBob The Musical Youth Edition and then compete with a competition cut of SpongeBob The Musical Youth Edition. All students in this program are required to attend and compete in 3 competitions. One large 3 day 3 night festival in Southern California and two small local competitions (less than 2 hours away). Every student will also develop an individual piece (vocal solo or duet, dance solo, monologue, makeup design, costume design or set design) to compete.

ORIENTATION

  • Sat September 9th from 12-2PM * Mandatory attendance for performer and at least one parent.

  • MONDAYS 4-6PM 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2 (No class 10/9) 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6, 11/13, (No Class 11/20) 11/27, 12/4, 12/11, 12/18, (No class 12/25 or 1/1), 1/8, 1/15 *please note we DO have class MLK DAY, 1/22, 1/29, 2/5

  • SUNDAYS 4-6PM 9/10, 9/17, 9/24, 10/1 (No class 10/8) 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12, (No Class 11/19) 11/26, 12/3, 12/10 (**NOTE: we originally said no class 12/10 but we would like to add it back in!) (No class: 12/17, 12/25 or 1/1), 1/7, 

  • SUNDAYS 3-7PM 1/14* please note we DO have class MLK Weekend, 1/21, 1/28, 2/4

  • **Once we have dates for the two local competitions we may add rehearsals on Mon or Sun before those comps

TECH/DRESS REHEARSALS (Attendance is mandatory) 

  • Thurs Jan 18th 3:45 - 9:45 (Pack a Peanut - Free Meal)

  • Sat Feb 3rd 12-5pm (Pack a Peanut - Free Snack)

  • Fri March 15th (time TBA but will be scheduled between 4 - 8)

PERFORMANCES / COMPETITIONS (Attendance is mandatory)

  • Full Spongebob Performance: Fri Jan 19th at 7pm, Sat Jan 20th at 2:00pm and Sat Jan 20th at 7:00pm

  • Musical Theatre Competitions of America in Southern California Feb 8th - 11th * This is a multi day overnight trip and we will need a lot of chaperones! 

  • Showcase Performance: Saturday March 16th (Times TBA but please plan that it will take all day including rehearsal and performance) 

  • Two local competitions within a 2 hour drive of the studio.  Please keep all three of the following weekeds available for now: Jan 26-28, Feb 16-18, April 26-28

Required: Black jazz shoes, team jacket

PLEASE UNDERSTAND, WHILE WE DO TAKE PARENT CHAPERONES, SPACES ARE LIMITED NOT ALL PARENTS WHO WANT TO CHAPERONE WILL BE CHOSEN. PARENTS WHO ARE NOT CHOSEN TO CHAPERONE ARE NOT INVITED TO JOIN US ON THE TRIP EVEN IF YOU WANT TO BOOK YOUR OWN TRIP SEPARATELY.

HERE IS AN OPEN LETTER DETAILING WHY

IF YOU DO NOT THINK YOUR CHILD HAS THE EMOTIONAL MATURITY TO HANDLE A TRIP LIKE THIS WITHOUT YOU THEN PLEASE RETHINK IF THEY ARE EMOTIONALLY MATURE ENOUGH TO BE IN THIS LEVEL OF PROGRAM. WE HAVE PLENTY OF OTHER WONDERFUL OPTIONS THAT DO NOT INCLUDE A TRIP
